Chef José Andrés—not only a great chef but a great humanitarian—has created a space not unlike the restaurants and mercados of Spain, where families and friends get together to eat, socialize, enjoy a quick snack or a business lunch. At Mercado, there are kiosks with many types of Spanish food, two bars, a coffee shop and two full-service restaurants, Mar and Leña. Chef Andrés collaborated with friends and renown chefs Albert and Ferran Adrià of elBulli, considered one of the world’s best restaurants, to bring the best foods of Spain to NYC. Kiosks feature specialties such as paella, mariscos, tortilla de patatas, jamon and quesos, and assorted tapas. Mercado is a place to not only enjoy all the many tastes of Spain, but to share with friends and experience a new form of “social media”—talking and enjoying each other’s company!
